Glasgow Wood Recycling Wins Sustainability Award!

Glasgow Wood Recycling were delighted to take home the Sustainability Award from the Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards in Liverpool on the 13th of March.

The Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards celebrate the work of small businesses that have accessed responsible business finance. The awards were established by the Citi Foundation to recognise microentrepreneurs and the responsible finance sector.

This year the awards were aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals – celebrating those whose businesses are contributing to economic growth, social and environmental wellbeing.

Bob Annibale, Global Director, Citi Inclusive Finance and Community Development, said:

“The Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards are a celebration of the enterprises and local businesses – like Glasgow Wood Recycling – that are the backbone of our communities. Year upon year, we see the increasing value of microenterprises in the UK, from businesses that have created jobs for marginalised youth, to businesses providing low-cost services for charities, or developing innovative and sustainable food sources.”

Glasgow Wood Recycling had previously been supported by lending from Glasgow-based responsible finance provider, DSL Business Finance – and we were thrilled to learn that DSL had nominated us for the award.

Nicole Cosgrove, DSL’s Investment Readiness Officer, commented:

“We are delighted that Glasgow Wood Recycling has been shortlisted for the Sustainability Awards. It has been a pleasure to be associated with the organisation since 2011 by providing loan support at various stages to assist with its development and growth.

“Its principal objective is via involving local people and communities providing locally accessible products and services that divert wood waste away from landfill and contribute to the sustainable regeneration of the local community. We have no doubt that its success will continue well into the future.”

Glasgow Wood Recycling’s Chief Executive Peter Lavelle says:

“The whole team at Glasgow Wood Recycling is delighted to be recognised for our social enterprise’s efforts. We strive daily to offer meaningful support to a wide range of people and we don’t often lift our heads to acknowledge that we can make a difference in our own small way.”

Another success at the Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards came for our friends at Cumbernauld based firm Aquapac – who took home the Growth Award. Aquapac produces a variety of wooden products (for kitchens, bedrooms and offices) and is currently one of the biggest manufacturers of flat pack aquarium cabinets and vivariums in the UK.
